Hey guys
I have an awesome idea for the sight. Since alot of blind users have I devices, I think it would be really cool if this site had it's own app. I even have an idea of a layout for it.
It could have the following tabs. Home, bords, quicknotes, games, and about, followed by logout button This way, you could jump to anyware you wanted right from the app.
As far as quick notes, they could always popup as push notifications. Lets face it, alot of users multitask on i devices. Let me know what you all think!
I'd be cool with everything accept the push notifications thing. As many quicknotes come throug h here, some people are gonna get overloaded and turn them off right away. they would have to go into settings and do that, but other than that I love the idea!
publick quicknotes could also be turned on or off from here, too. Another option, of course, you could go into app switcher and kill the app
and there would be no need to worry about alot of qn's. the app would remember how you set it on the site, and use that. If you have publicks off, no biggy
While I definitely think this is a great idea, I doubt it will be made any time soon. Making an app requires a lot and time and effort if you're starting from scratch, not to mention if they do make this app, the android users are going to start demanding their's as well. Having said that, I certainly do hope this idea will be considered.
There is an app for the Zone BBS--it's called your web browser.
I personally agree with the previous poster.
One thing you can do is on your iDevice visit this site, and visit the places you normally use the most. On each page, add it to your bookmarks and select to Add to Home Screen. Then make a folder on there with all of the bookmarks in it, and you can go direct where you want to.
I have Quicknote Console on there like that, and while you get no Zone Sounds you still get acccess to the page and can check when you want.
That's definitely a decent workaround if you really want to visit The zone on your iDevice. I see the previous posters' points, but unless people start demanding for an app, how would one be harming you? would you be at a disadvantage if they did decide to make one? this is not a necessary feature by any means, and demanding or badgering the staff to make one when they clearly have other things on their plate is nothing short of rude and selfish. But I don't see the original poster as having done that here.
Oh I'd use it if it were there, but iOS development and its associated costs is kinda a headache ... dunno how much they would get based on ads at the bottom of the screen, done by Apple. Or guess they could just charge for it. Or farm it out to one of these young interns on here. lol but who said the admins wanted to deal with interns either? <smile>

I think it's a great idea. and for those who says it isn't necessary, no shit! All the Twitter, FB, weather aps, and so on aren't necessary either. They're all accesssible via computer or web browser. Let's be real.
Make this app a premium feature, to help offset the dev costs behind it.
The time and effort honestly wouldn't be worth it otherwise to the staff.

I think it's a great idea, and I've thought about an app for the Zone ever since I first created my account. I would say though to not make it a premium members only thing, but rather to charge for the app when you buy it. I think that would be better, and more people would download it. Does anyone know if staff has seen this or considered it yet?
wouldn't it be great though if it was for all devices too? something like the qube, or the klango client? you could make it like that for desktops.
This idea sounds great, except that nobody will pay the cost for it. Since it's not necesary to use the site, the admins won't be doing it. I could do it, but would get nothing out of it. I'm sure other IOS developers who have accounts. Therefore, what's the point. If in a hypothetical situation I programmed an app, I couldn't charge for it. If I did, you all would say that I was making money off the zone, which I did not write and therefore have no right to profit from. The apple advertising service returns money based on how many people click the adds. I doubt many will click on the adds constantly to return revenue. Finally, the zone will never do it, as you all should know. The admins no longer do much on this site. They maintain it, but they don't update it. So, who is going to program it? I think very few people are going to step forward.
